Weeks have gone by, and the controversy about emojis and whether they discriminate against young girls and women continues all over the country. All women have their rights to go above and beyond to their full abilities. The lack of emoji representation of working women reinforces gender stereotypes. It is stereotypical that many believe that men and young boys are likely to be more successful than young girls and women due to gender.

Emojis has become the way people communicate with one another. It has become a part of most people’s language. People that use emojis on a daily basis could get the message that young girls and women cannot succeed in a profession the way men are able to due to the lack of emoji representation.

Since the women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls N.Y from July 19, 1848, to July 20, 1848, women have gained opportunities that all men were born into. According to the National Women’s History Project, there was a long list of opportunities that were not given to women, called “The Declaration of Sediments.”

Some problems on the list included women not being allowed to enter professions such as medicine or law, women had no means to gain an education since no college or university would accept women students, and women were robbed of their self-confidence and self-respect forcing them to be dependent on men. These problems were resolved but in ways are still interrupting our society now.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was able to empower that women had the right to receive an education and be given the same abilities as men had to be able to succeed and provide for their families. But somehow complications about young girls and women being discriminated from men will probably always exist.

This ties into the controversy because now women have the right to enter any profession of their interest, and are able to earn an education at any college or university. Women and young girls have the opportunity to succeed now the way men do but are underestimated because of their gender.

Women should not have to choose between a princess, a bride, a dancer in a red dress, and many more emojis that does not resemble a profession. Meanwhile, men have the option to choose a profession such as policemen or a construction worker.

Not only do these emojis show discrimination against women and their ability towards earning a profession, but they discriminate against young girls and women and their athletic abilities.

Many people stereotypically believe that women do not have athletic abilities the way males do. They believe that young girls and women are not able to play or work as hard as males can.

The emojis show a variety of males participating in physical activities. For example, there is a good amount of male athlete emojis that include a horseback rider, a man bowling, a man walking, a man running, a man golfing, a man swimming and floating.

It is important that this issue is resolved, even though it’s not the most urgent problem dealing with discrimination. Rather, this a problem that can easily be avoided. One way to fix this issue is by adding female versions of the male professions that already exist. This can avoid further conflict towards discrimination against young girls and women.
