There’s something so appealing about being on the school bus. The sound of all the people talking and conversing. The feel and sound of the bus as it stops, starts, and turns. The feeling of sitting with friends and relaxing on the seats. Looking outside while you pass by every car and person.

I always get excited when I get on the bus. It’s almost like my physical self knows that we’re going somewhere. Like an orchestra performance or school trip. I get this excitement that grows in my stomach every time we load onto the bus. I love to hear the strange conversations, kids being hyper, and seeing the world from inside the bus.

It reminds me of the school trips I had as a kid along with all the orchestra performances, and mariachi performances in high school. It reminds me of taking the school bus every day to my dual summer college course in the summer.

The ride is also a time for relaxation and contemplation. My thoughts run wild. They range from ideas to write to what is on my agenda. I even wrote this on the bus on my way to an orchestra performance. As strange as it seems I absolutely love to ride the school bus. It’s a safe haven for my thoughts and I know for a fact that I can sit and contemplate. It gives me a small window of uninterrupted thinking. I value the times I get on the bus.

The humming of the engine calms me. Listening to music while on the way enhances the experience by 100 percent. All I have to do is put on my earphones, close my eyes, and sit comfortably to leave this world and reach a state of peace and relaxation.

I do find much peace when traveling on the school bus. I get to put my legs up and just take in all the sounds of the bus, the conversations of the people, and the things that pass us outside. Sometimes I listen to music and watch everything outside pass by.

Every time I get on a school bus I see something in Laredo I’ve never noticed before. My eyes see something new every single time. I really enjoy these small moments I get on the bus. During the afternoon, I get to lean on the window and take in all the warmth taken in by the sun. Everything is so pure and uninterrupted. Some may consider it such a small unimportant concept, but to me it’s everything.
