After nearly 5 years of being with Taken by Tides, lead vocalist, Alejandro Moreno decided to leave the band.

Alejandro Moreno, 20, joined Taken by Tides, a local metalcore band, in 2013. The band consisted of six members. Moreno’s role was lead vocalist.

Moreno feels the band really had its benefits. He believes some good memories were made. He not only grew with the band, but he expanded his musical interest while with them on the road and over the years. The band got to travel, perform, and interact with other bands and artists as well.

“Taken by Tides made me experience a lot of new things in life. I got to meet people I would have never had the chance to meet otherwise. I also gained a lot of experience playing the shows.”

One experience that Moreno feels was the best was Winterfest 2014.

“It was straight up like 300 people, and it was a stacked line up.”

Moreno feels there was plenty of crazy, fun experiences with the crowds. They were very welcoming and hyped for the band to perform.

Another show Moreno feels stuck out the most was at the Laredo Energy Arena (LEA).

“The show was on April 20th of 2017. We got to open up for P.O.D. and Darke Complex at the LEA. That was also one of the first times my parents came to see me play. Since they don’t really listen to metal music, they never really saw me play a lot. Knowing that they went to watch me at the LEA was very humbling for me.”

The band also released an album called “Sic Parvis Magna”. “Sic Parvis Magna” is Latin for “Greatness From Small beginnings”.

The band sold physical copies of the album (CDs) and also sold t-shirts and tank tops.

The lyrics the band used were original. Moreno and another member of the band, Omar (guitarist at the time), got together during practices to equally write the lyrics.

The band was working on a second album, but around that time was when Moreno left the band for personal reasons.

Though Moreno decided to leave the band back in January of 2018, he plans to continue with music.

“In some way, shape, or form I plan to continue with music. It has always been a part of me.”

Moreno says Winston McCall from the band Parkway Drive is his idol. He inspired Moreno throughout his musical journey and continues to do so.

Moreno is hoping to join another band sometime this year and work on new music projects. He believes his parting from the band is the start of a new journey for both him and the band.
